Total number of completed stories: 13 (a fair number of PWP, but not all)
Total word count: AO3 says 63,469 words, (but I know that includes all of Matter of Trust which I’ve added to over the course of something like 4 years, and Steam being on there twice, so really more like 35,491). Still, that is more than I posted last year, so I’m satisfied with it.
Fandoms written in: So far all my published works are in variations of Sherlock Holmes, including Sherlock(TV), Sherlock Holmes and related fandoms, and Sherlock Holmes- Arthur Conan Doyle.
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d expected? I wrote about the amount I expected, though not in as spread-out a fashion as I intended. I set a goal of posting 13 fics this year and I did it! I’ve started or worked on a lot of other stories as well, but it feels good to have posted these 13.
What’s your own favorite story of the year? This is a tough one, because I generally like my stories or I wouldn’t post them. For my Johnlock fics I really like either Dyke the Halls or There’s Always Something. I also ventured into several new ships this year and I really liked Worth the Wait, which is Mystrade.
Did you take any writing risks this year? For me it feels like a writing related risk that I applied to be a panelist at 221b con. I ended up being on the 18 and over ace panel and the Freaks in Love kink panel. I feel like being a panelist, and writing articles are things “real writers” do. I haven’t always felt confident enough to envision myself as a real writer whatever that means to me, but I’m starting to see myself that way. I also feel like it was a risk to enter into an auction for my writing. I’ve done exchanges before, but nothing where people had paid real money (in this case to charity). I’m glad my bidder ended up happy with her fic. In terms of just my writing itself, I think venturing into new pairings was the biggest risk.
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the new year?
I’m keeping my goal the same for fanfic, which is to post 13 fics (slightly more than one a month on average, though they don’t really spread out that way for me.) I also have high hopes of getting at least one article published.
Most popular story of the year? Dyke the Halls was my most popular story this year. It had 211 kudos on AO3, which is a lot for me on a shorter fic. I find that especially startling, since it is teen and up and usually my E rated fics are more popular.
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: I’m really grateful for any appreciation I get. I am pretty well adjusted to the fact that my writing for smaller ships is going to get less attention and feedback, just due to the smaller number of fans. In my writing across all years, I think the Opening Up series is underappreciated, but johnlockary isn’t for everyone.
Most unintentionally telling story: I feel like all my stories tell something about me, whether my desires, my fears. I write pretty openly about sex, BDSM, polyamory. Maybe Expert Touch, though.
Biggest disappointment: That is still have so many unfinished stories, both on AO3 and in my drive. That, and the fact that I didn’t notice whatever glitch double posted Steam until both copies had kudos, bookmarks and comments which I couldn’t bear to scrap, so they are both still there looking silly.
Biggest surprise: Being asked to contribute to Spark. As I mentioned earlier, I tend to be dismissive of my own writing, though I’m working on that. I was beyond honored to be asked to contribute.
